After an intense period of rehearsals for a more elaborate stage production, “Arlequim servidor de tantos amores” turned out to be a frustrating experience for most of the members of the group. The original idea was to explore the possibilities offered by the masks from commedia dell’arte, the Italian genre of folk street theater. Galpão’s rendering of the Carlo Goldoni’s classic, “Harlequin, Servant of Two Masters,” involved the collaboration of the Italian actress Ariel Genovese. Disappointed with the result, Grupo Galpão performed “Arlequim servidor de tantos amores” for only a year and a half, the shortest season of any of Galpão’s productions.
