
Antonio Edson was born Leandro Ferreira in 1955. His father was a traveling salesman and his mother a housewife. He was raised in Pitangui, Minas Gerais and, in spite of his 5’6’’, Antônio Edson took every opportunity to practice sports, joining even the city’s only basketball team, making good use of his skills and amazing vertical leap. At the age of seventeen Antônio Edson moved to Belo Horizonte, where he finished high school and joined Teatro Universitário (TU) at UFMG, directed at the time by Haydée Bittencourt. He graduated also with a major in literature from UFMG. Mr. Edson, a.k.a. Toninho,kept his ties with the TU and Haydée Bittencourt indicated him to a scholarship from the Goethe Institut to participate in the workshop with Teatro Livre de Munique in the Winter Festival in 1982. Since then Antonio Edson’s career has coincided with Grupo Galpão’s story. Toninho has appeared in every production of the troupe since its foundation. On television Toninho has worked in “Da cor do pecado” and “Hoje é dia de Maria” directed by Luis Fernando Carvalho. Antonio Edson is married to Elisa, a professional storyteller, and they have the two wonderful kids, Manoel and Dersu. |
