O Grupo
Beto Franco
Beto Franco was born in Belo Horizonte in 1960. He studied with the Jesuits at Loyola and then started an engineer major at the university. After four years Beto Franco dropped out of college, but before that he managed the cultural affairs department of the Student’s Union and founded PUC’s cinema club. Beto’s long-term involvement with music took him to the Winter Festival in Diamantina where he followed from a distance the theater workshop developed by Kurt and George where his friend Eduardo Moreira, Antonio Edson, Teuda Bara, and Wanda Fernandes met. In 1982, Beto Franco was invited by the founding members of Grupo Galpão to participate in "... e a noiva não quer casar," but he still hesitated to dedicate himself to theater full-time. A while later Beto joined the cast of "A esposa muda," and the demands of extended touring forced him to make a final decision and take up acting professionally. His know-how about engineering and music frequently comes in handy during the production process and also in the everyday routine of the group’s activities. Beto Franco has appeared in every production by Grupo Galpão except "De olhos fechados" and "Arlequim, servidor de tantos amores." In the cinema he played the role of the protagonist in João Vargas Pena’s short movie "Negócio da China." Since 2005, Beto Franco has managed Galpão Cine Horto, besides Grupo Galpão.
